30 Weeks

I hit the 30 week mark this weekend.  This pregnancy is flying by!  We had a rainy weekend, and with feeling more tired again in the third trimester, Kingston and I clocked in some serious cuddle and nap time.  The positive part of all the rain is that I didn't need to water my garden!

In the Garden: Pots and Boxes

The weather has finally decided to stay above 0 C.  Yay!

I spent part of my long weekend planting my annuals into my flower pots and window boxes.  The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, and Kingston got in on the action too.  Take a look at my work so far:

Top: Mix of papyrus grass, African daisies, nemesia, euphorbia and wire vine
Middle: Fuschia, clover and double impatians
Bottom: Vinca vine, geranium, wave petunia and ivy
(I saved $$ and went with the 99 cent geraniums and petunias - boxes should fill out soon!)

Top: Kingston has claimed the comfy chair
Bottom left: Purple fountain grass, trailing bamboo grass, angelonia and nemesia
Bottom right: Lofos climbing vine

The Patio

Our patio has undergone a bit of a makeover this spring.  I found an amazing deal on this 5-piece patio set at The Bay.  It was exactly what I was looking for, and isn't too big for our small space.  I decided to buy new flower containers to go with the new patio furniture.  After many many shopping trips, I finally settled on these large black square pots.  All together I love the new look of our patio!

Practically perfect in every way.

The final bucket list activity for fall - wear a costume!

I went to our halloween event as Mary Poppins - which was actually quite easy to put together and super comfortable all evening!

hat, blouse, skirt - Forever 21
flowers, red belt (a Christmas ribbon), carpet bag - thrifted
umbrella, shoes - my own

Halloween.

Halloween has come and gone once again.  It always feels like it sneaks up on us!
We managed to squeeze some pumpkin carving in on Tuesday evening.  I think they turned out pretty well - my husband's pumpkin is quite the mountain biking masterpiece!

And Kingston donned his favourite tie for the occasion while I handed out candy to trick or treaters...

I have been looking back at my fall bucket list now that it is November...
the only things I have left to do are to picnic on a sunny day - I think that one will have to wait for the summer - and to wear a costume....which will happen this weekend at a Halloween party!

Now it's time to start thinking about my winter/holiday bucket list!

Early Christmas.

Somebody opened his Christmas present early....take a look!

Merry almost Christmas!

Halloween.

I hope everyone had a fun halloween night!

We had our usual number of trick or treaters.
Lots of superheroes and princesses, as always!

Our bat in the moon pumpkin

My costume this year...I was a tea bag! Handmade by me, too!

Kingston helping greet the trick or treaters.
He was wearing one of his ties I sewed him last year.
Unfortunately, I couldn't get a good photo of him looking through the window!
The children were all quite impressed with how cute he was :)

Now, to eat the leftover candy....

Dog days of summer.

Spending my summer days hanging out with Rennie and Kingston

Backyard shenanigans.

This post is for Grandpa, who wanted to see more photos of the pets!

Kingston has been working on his tree climbing skills:
(a difficult feat without claws!)

And Rennie loves his ball and his bones:

Five senses friday.

Seeing

The apple blossoms come and go. It's such a short time when they're in bloom!

Hearing

I bought Jeremy Fisher's album Flood this week and have been loving it! I think it will be my summer album this year.

Smelling

I don't know what it is, but there is something that really stinks in and around our compost area. Gross!

Tasting

The cinnamon honey I bought from a local producer...so yummy!

Touching

The pages of my New York City travel book. Flights booked for a vacation in a couple of weeks!

Have a wonderful weekend!

My camera is finally in my possession again, after my husband held it hostage at work forever! Photos by me in my garden: 1. Kingston 2. Apple Blossoms
More to follow!

New shade garden.

Last fall my husband trimmed away the lower branches of one of the evergreen trees in our backyard, leaving behind a big open garden space to fill up.

After thinking about it all winter (and doing a bit of research on plants that grow well under pine trees) I finally settled on my plant selections, which are all perennials. In this photo I was just choosing plant placement before digging:

Here is the final result:

I planted: 'Jack Frost' Brunnera, Columbine, several types of hosta, Jacob's ladder, Solomon's Seal, Lady's Mantle and daylilies from my mom's garden.

The area actually gets more sun now that the branches are trimmed away, so it is more of a 'part-sun/part-shade' garden.

Here's a few shots of our pets from this weekend:

Rennie (who tore up and spread all of my potting soil around the yard
while we were away this weekend)
and Kingston finding some shade under a chair.

New fern.

As you can see, Kingston loves the new addition to the home.
