Valentine's Day Craft for Toddlers

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, so I thought I'd try a little art project to help Ari get into the holiday spirit. I've done a snowflake version of this craft with my students and it turned out beautiful.  Here I simplified the process slightly to make it easy enough for toddlers to do, with a little help.  We hung our hearts up in the living room window and they are beautiful!

Coffee Filter Hearts

Materials needed:
Coffee filters cut into heart shapes
Markers
Water
Paint brushes

First, colour the hearts with markers.  There are no rules on how to do this...have fun.  Ari's scribbles looked really pretty after the next step.....

Next, "paint" the hearts with water.  Get the whole thing wet.  The marker will bleed and create a watercolour effect.

Lay the hearts out to dry.  A drying rack or paper towel will do.

Hang them up to display!  We used a bit of pink washi tape to stick them on our front window.

A cute, simple craft for your toddler.  Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's weekend!

I just wanted to share this recipe for Valentine's Day Strawberries and Cream Puppy Chow from the blog Live, Love and Sugar.  I made it this week with my students for our Valentine's party, and it turned out great!  The kids really loved chowing down on their own 'baking', and it was a perfect way to practice some teamwork and recipe reading skills!

We are planning on spending our love day as a family in Winnipeg tomorrow with some dinner and checking out the ice castles at The Forks.  Take care, and enjoy your long weekend! ♡

Happy Halloween!

It's that day of the year again!

The trick or treaters are slowly trickling by my house and I already have an aching stomach from over indulging in my candy bowl.  I thought I'd share a picture of our pumpkins this year.  I did the owl and my hubby cut out Frankenstein.  They look pretty good all lit up!

Practically perfect in every way.

The final bucket list activity for fall - wear a costume!

I went to our halloween event as Mary Poppins - which was actually quite easy to put together and super comfortable all evening!

Halloween.

Halloween has come and gone once again.  It always feels like it sneaks up on us!
We managed to squeeze some pumpkin carving in on Tuesday evening.  I think they turned out pretty well - my husband's pumpkin is quite the mountain biking masterpiece!

And Kingston donned his favourite tie for the occasion while I handed out candy to trick or treaters...

I have been looking back at my fall bucket list now that it is November...
the only things I have left to do are to picnic on a sunny day - I think that one will have to wait for the summer - and to wear a costume....which will happen this weekend at a Halloween party!

Now it's time to start thinking about my winter/holiday bucket list!

Easter decor.

I thought this was a fresh decorating idea to celebrate
both Easter and the arrival of spring!

Hollowed out coloured eggshells make for a pretty holder
of tiny spring flower arrangements.

I thought this was such a pretty way to decorate with eggs in a non-traditional Easter way.

Pinterest Picks: Valentine baking.

I don't normally bake anything special for Valentine's Day, but my goodness, are there ever creative ideas on Pinterest! A sampling:

Yikes...are there ever ideas out there!

diy idea: frozen hearts.

A pretty valentine to show off outside.

You can be SO creative with what types of petals, greens, twigs,
berries, or whatever you decide to put into the hearts!

Amaryllis.

It's that time of the year!

The perfect time to plant holiday bulbs inside (such as amaryllis and paperwhites) in time for Christmas blooms is now! I stopped in at my local nursery to shop for this year's bulbs. They didn't have paperwhites in stock, but they did have the biggest amaryllis bulbs in beautiful colours! It was hard to choose, but I went for a 'Charisma' bulb in pink and white.

I placed my red pot (from IKEA) in a sunny spot and am waiting for it to start growing!

Style at Home {special holiday issue}

I spoiled myself and bought Style at Home's special holiday issue this weekend!
Now that Halloween is over it's time to dig in :)

Halloween.

I hope everyone had a fun halloween night!

We had our usual number of trick or treaters.
Lots of superheroes and princesses, as always!

My costume this year...I was a tea bag! Handmade by me, too!

Kingston helping greet the trick or treaters.
He was wearing one of his ties I sewed him last year.
Unfortunately, I couldn't get a good photo of him looking through the window!
The children were all quite impressed with how cute he was :)

Now, to eat the leftover candy....

DIY Idea: Fabric pumpkins.

I always spot these fabric pumpkins all over Etsy at this time of year and think that they are rather cute fall decorations to have dotted around the house.

I found this tutorial (via katie) that takes you through the steps to sew your own little pumpkins rather affordably.

In case you're not the do it yourself type of person, the pumpkins above are up for grabs in these Etsy shops: Imali and SeaPinks

DIY idea: Fun with Easter Eggs.

I spotted this creative Easter egg diy idea over at Oh Happy Day.
Would these not make the Easter egg hunt more fun??

P.S. - The tutorial uses this diy as a game...the one who gets a head full of golden glitter gets a special prize!

diy idea: a tin of shamrocks.

I spotted this simple and sweet diy idea at You Are My Fave.
Pretty up a tin with some Mod Podge and fabric to make a
cute planter for a shamrock this St. Patty's Day.

My bouquet.

The pretty bouquet of tulips, roses and lilies my sweetie gave me this weekend.
The colours remind me of my wedding bouquet...so romantic!

Happy valentine's day.

Happy Valentine's Day to all!

I got a beautiful bouquet of flowers from my husband on the weekend.
I will post some photos of them later!
Our plans include going out for Mexican food tonight...
...what are you doing?

Cute valentine stickers.

These little Valentine fruit stickers are so adorable!
If I had sticker paper at home I would be sneaking some of these into the fruit bowl...
