The Evolution of a Picture

I am by no means a photographer.  100% of the pictures I take are done so with my iPhone and aren't particularly spectacular.  I do, however, use an app called A Color Story, to help make my pictures look a little brighter, brilliant and impressive.  I'm still working at learning how to best use the features of the app, but the makers of it post useful tutorials on their blog, A Beautiful Mess, regularly. I thought I'd share some side by side photos so you can see the original, unedited photo next to the edited version. In the top photo the whiteness of the blanket and colours of her outfit now pop after editing.  The original photo is cute, but not as clean and bright as the second.
The basement was difficult to photograph because of limited natural light. The editing helped brighten up the shadows while keeping a bright, natural lighting look.
Our bathroom also lacks natural light, so all photos turn out shadowy and dark.  I wanted the bathtub to look white, like it actually is, and to minimize shadows.
We had a gorgeous fall, but a few tweaks made the colours and light in this photo brilliant.
The snowy background became a crisp white and the blue and red colours just pop in this photo now.

I love playing with A Color Story.  It can be downloaded for free here.  Note that the free version has limited features and you can make in-app purchases to have use of all the 100+ photo filters, effects and tools.
