Back from the Fest

The annual five days in July at the Winnipeg Folk Festival have passed by once again. As I pack up my tie-dyed sundress for another year I meditate on the moments had at this year's festival--

Eating a deliciously bad-for-you Whales Tail each and every evening while enjoying the main stage

Hearing the musical beauty of The Swell Season live--if you have seen the film Once you know who couple/band this is

Meeting up with friends and folks once again and catching up on what's new

Emmylou Harris singing 'Orphan Girl'. Live.

Experiencing the 'tent city' of the group campground for the first time

John Hiatt singing 'Have a Little Faith in Me'. Live.

Basking in the warm sunny weather--absolutely perfect for the festival

Being present at the Jim Bryson & The Weakerthans & Gord Downie & Sarah Harmer workshop on Sunday afternoon. CBC Radio 2 recorded the session and you can listen to it here

Discovering The Avett Brothers for the first time. They blew us away! As did Hoots & Hellmouth! Check them both out

The surprise appearance of the Crash Test Dummies. And hearing them perform their Superman song. Live.

Andrew Bird. Live. (Especially his song 'Fitz & Dizzyspells'!)

Random moments that make the festival a festival :: a marching band plowing through the grounds, a walrus, Antony & Cleopatra of the Festival Campground, pink plastic pigtails on boys, the circus, The Secondhandpants appearing in a jukebox, and a live stickman at the backstage afterparty.

It was a SWELL time at the festival. I had a wonderful time working as a volunteer and can't wait for next year's festival.

  1. Swell Season and Andrew Bird are two of my most favorite! Sounds like an amazing lineup.
