Made it Monday: Baby Bow Tie
As I mentioned on Friday, my sister-in-law got married on Saturday! Last week, as I was planning Ari's outfit for the wedding, I realized that he needed something a little extra dressy for the occasion. It was too late to order something online, and there is a serious lack of baby clothes stores in our area, so, I decided that I would have to make a bow tie myself. This brought back memories to my grade ten sewing class, when we made about 100 red satin bow ties for our school choir! A bit of searching on the web brought up many tutorials for sewing bow ties for little boys and babies. I ended up combining the patterns from Make It & Love It and Slow Mama for the perfect bow tie (in my opinion).
This project took about thirty minutes to complete - it really was quick and easy. I may even make him a few more in the future! He was very proud to wear his tie, and looked quite handsome, even though he is unhappy in the only picture I could get of him sitting! He wanted to run, run, run, not sit and pose! He even kept his tie on all evening, until 11 pm, without pulling on it or trying to take it off. Good man!
I mostly used the steps from Make it & Love it, however, I thought that size of tie would be too large for my boy. I used the tie dimensions from Slow Mama (9" x 4") to make a slightly smaller version, keeping the neck strap and middle piece of tie the same as Make it & Love it.
