I thought I would share some of my summer updates to my living room. It's always fun to make small changes in rooms, using art or accent pieces, for a budget-friendly makeover!
One of the changes I made in the living room was replacing the art I had hanging above our sofa. I wanted to create a mismatched gallery wall using affordable art from Etsy. I used to have a set of large black frames here, but it felt too dark and heavy. I mixed sizes of art and black and white frames for a lighter look. I also tried to keep my art selections to tones of blue and green to make the collection feel cohesive. I am really loving my art collection! The nice thing is that it will be easy to add to the gallery wall or to switch the art around when I get tired of it.
Frames: IKEA
Another small update I made was a bit of an impulse purchase at HomeSense. I found this beautiful set of shabby chic blue-ish nesting tables for a great price. I had been wanting to replace my cheap IKEA side table for ages, and these were just speaking to me! Sometimes you just have to go for it :) I styled my tables with white and blue pieces I already had at home...including a blue jay feather that I found in my back yard and a deer antler picked up by a local hunter that I spray painted white!
It's been a year since I painted my striped walls and I am still loving the look. I always get questions from visitors to my house about how we made the lines so straight. I blogged about my striping adventures, so head back to this post to read the whole how-to!
