Trying Out Square Foot Gardening

Now that my lasagna gardens are topped up with fresh compost and peat moss it is time to begin planting! I have been curious about the square foot method of gardening for awhile, so I thought I would try it out this year.  To begin, I used string to section my garden beds into square feet.  I have two 4x8 foot beds, so 64 square feet to garden in!
I used a printable square foot garden planner to plan out my garden.  I also used this guide to know how many plants to seed in each square. This part is very important so that the plants have adequate spacing and you can sow and harvest the greatest possible potential of your garden.
My 'map' of the garden is a critical guide now as I begin seeding; it tells me what plants are where and I know which squares to water while I begin filling them in.  Once everything is seeded and germinated I will remove the string markers, but for now it is very important to keep track of seeding!
So far I have seeded my carrots, peas, lettuce, arugula and radishes.
Later this week I will seed herbs and annual flowers.
I will save tomatoes, cucumbers, beans and squash for about two more weeks.
I look forward to sharing my square foot garden progress on the blog!
