Spring Project: Outdoor Chair Refresh

This spring one of my goals was to refresh my old wooden adirondack chairs.  They have been in serious need of a makeover for awhile and it kept being put off.  I decided that with all of the free time on my hands (insert sarcasm here...I have a baby!) I would tackle the project this year.

I remembered to shop early enough for a good selection of new chair cushions and found some colourful striped ones at Canadian Tire.  A local boutique also started carrying Cottage Paint chalk paint this year, so I thought I would try it out on my chairs in a dark charcoal grey.

Here's a look at the horrendous before and a much nicer after:

So, I only have one chair finished at the moment as I have to try to sneak time after baby's bedtime and before the sun goes down, and on days when there is no rain in the forecast (as we have no garage).  Needless to say it has been slow going, but I am very happy with the results!

I painted two coats on the chair and that seemed to cover well.  I did sand my chair off first since it really needed it...even though the paint company says sanding and priming are not required.  I did not apply a finishing sealer as it seems to be optional, even for exterior painting.  I think I will wait and see how the finish holds out and then decide if I need to touch up and seal.

Now to finish up chair #2 and put up my feet!
