Nursery Project: Cloud Mobile

Last week I shared a DIY idea to make a cloud mobile on my Make it Monday post.   I was also really inspired by this cloud mobile by the Etsy shop, The Butter Flying.  I did a little digging around in my craft supplies at home and managed to find most of the things I needed to make my own version of the mobile.  I picked up the rest of the supplies at Michael's for less than $10!

Supplies:
  • Fleece or felt in desired colours (I used white, purple and jade green - although the green cloud appears dark grey in the photos)
  • Stuffing for clouds
  • Embroidery hoop (7")
  • Wood star
  • Metallic paint
  • Embossed metallic paper
  • Thread in matching colours
To start, I hand drew a cloud pattern on paper and cut out two pieces from each colour of fabric.  I sewed the clouds together with my machine, right sides together, leaving a space to turn them right side out.  I stuffed each cloud with polyester filling, and then hand sewed the openings closed.

Next, I painted the wood star with a bronze metallic paint to match the embossed paper I found for the raindrops.  I cut out nine raindrops and attached them to the clouds with bronze coloured embroidery floss.

I then attached the clouds (with white thread - if I had fisherman's wire at home I would have used that) to the hoop at varying heights and added more thread to create a hanger for the mobile with the star falling from the middle.

I LOVE how the mobile turned out.  Shows that you don't need to spend a lot of money to have something special for the baby's room!
