The zoo.

This past weekend my husband and I decided to go visit the zoo. I couldn't even remember the last time I went to our zoo and was surprised by all the new things on display! For example, the butterfly gardens that I'd heard plans for years ago were actually in existence now. We had a great afternoon walking around and seeing what the animals (and butterflies) were up to on a lazy long weekend...

The butterfly gardens had monarch butterflies (the only variety I noticed) flying around inside the greenhouse. Lots of beautiful butterfly-attracting flowers were planted everywhere - very colourful!

The flamingos, monkeys, and rainforest garden are also a new fixture at the zoo, called 'Toucan Ridge' - a display of Central American flora and fauna. It reminded me of Belize, and the red panda was sooo cute!

Beautiful peacocks still strut freely around the zoo grounds - just like when I was a kid!

After the zoo we had a wonderful dinner at a newish South American restaurant in the trendy downtown area - complete with live latin music! A great long weekend day.
