An Afternoon in the Hills

Yesterday my husband and I headed out to the hills for an afternoon hike. It was a little bit muddy and there were oodles of mosquitos and woodticks to keep us moving at a brisk pace, but the woods were absolutely green and fresh. Even though I'm still imagining ticks crawling up my legs, it was well worth the outing to get some fresh outdoor air and search out wildflowers local to our area.

There were so many pretty little flowers blooming along the path. I didn't know what they all were, but I did a little bit of research at Prairie Originals to find out the names of all the native plants. Prairie Originals is a greenhouse in our province that specializes in wildflowers and native grasses. Their website has great photos and explanations of each plant they sell.

The hike...

...isn't it so green and pretty??? And you can hardly tell we're being eaten alive by the bugs.

The Plants...

Wild Rhubarb growing everwhere:

Canada Anenome:

Wild Columbine:

Red Lily:

This one I'm not entirely sure of--I think it might be an Obedient Plant?

There were also wild roses growing next to the dirt road where we parked the car, and so many other plants that looked ready to bloom in the coming weeks. We will have to visit again, and often, to see the full season of wildflowers in bloom. Plus, maybe next time the mosquitos won't be so terrible! But, it's raining again today...perfect breeding weather for more...
